The Green Wall House

Today we travel to the Chamberí neighborhood in Madrid to visit a spectacular renovation of a house located in a building from the 20s. The project is the work of the Ábaton and Batavia architecture team.

The renovation starts from an old house, very compartmentalized with a small living room and small rooms of different uses distributed along a long curved corridor.

After the renovation the house has a spacious living room, kitchen, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The final result, a modern and functional home in which the original architectural elements have been respected that coexist perfectly with contemporary pieces and ethnic details.

For the new house, original architectural elements were preserved such as the moldings, the passage doors, the stained glass windows, the pine floor and the original green color of one of the walls of the living room was left visible. 

For the new kitchen with straight lines and contemporary style , a natural oak floor was used that contrasts with the pristine white of the furniture. A contrast that adds a feeling of comfort and warmth to the room. 

Mortex and hydraulic tiles are responsible for dressing the floors of the rooms and bathrooms. 

Contrasts are the key to the new décor. Oriental-style furniture mixed with Nordic-style pieces result in eclectic spaces, full of life and personality.

The white color is the great protagonist of this reform, this is mixed with blue pieces and earthy details that combined with the wood of the doors and floors, manage to give the new interior a casual, bohemian and warm air.

The key to the success of this reform is to have created open spaces, thus adapting this old house to modern life.
