Tips for surviving a small kitchen

Today, when we decide to set up the kitchen for our home, in addition to looking for it to be a functional and comfortable space to work in, we also want it to be an important part of the decoration. We spend hours looking at dream kitchens in magazines and on Pinterest and we want ours to be just as beautiful, pleasant and cozy so that the idea of spending hours in it is appetizing, even if we don't like to cook. However, these ideas vanish when our kitchen is reduced to a few meters. The tasks of making it functional and beautiful get complicated and we get overwhelmed thinking that we have very few options.

But no. We always have options. Let's push away negative thoughts, keep an open mind and let our imagination run wild because our space may be small but, without a doubt, it can look wonderful. To do this, we will have to control our limitations, put into practice a few simple tricks and get the most out of this work area. #1. Light colors look better

This is a lesson that if you are a veteran in our blog you will know well: to create a feeling of greater visual amplitude, there is nothing better than white and soft neutrals. These colors illuminate, bounce light, and trick our eye into feeling like it's in a larger space. For our new (and small) kitchen they will be perfect. Opting for white is the safest bet. A more daring but very trendy one and with a result that we love are soft but fresh colors such as, for example, mint green. If, even so, we want to include our favorite colors, how about doing it in the details? A few dishes, tea towels...

#2. Make your kitchen shine

To create a feeling of freshness, spaciousness and clarity, in addition to color, lighting will be an element to take into account. If you have a natural light source, make the most of it. Ensure that your windows will be accessible and that they will not be hidden behind any element. As for artificial light, opt for a composition that completely illuminates the room and reinforces the points where you will work the most.

#3. Take advantage of the walls and corners!

By embedding a piece of furniture to the wall (if we have that possibility), hanging shelves and using tall furniture we gain space for storage. Walls, used correctly and without abusing them, will be our great allies. As are the corners. Every inch counts and you will be surprised by the space offered by corner cabinets.

Designing our custom-made furniture means increasing our budget. This can be an inconvenience but it will save us the headaches of finding the exact furniture and, in addition, it will allow us to take advantage of all our space perfectly, ensuring harmony and the right distribution.

#5. U-shaped kitchen

One of the most common layouts when space is at a premium is the "L" shaped layout. But another model that is also widely used is in the shape of a "U". Our space to move around the kitchen is reduced but we increase storage and work space, so it is a very important option to consider.
