A little corner of chilly Helsinki that radiates light and warmth

In the Kruununhaka neighbourhood of the cold and coastal capital of Finland we find a small corner that exudes light and warmth. It is a studio built more than a century ago, in 1897, occupied by two inhabitants: the plastic artist Saija Starr and her partner. Its only 67 square meters have not been an impediment for its owners to make it a unique home with a lot of personality.

One of the things we liked most about this house is the wise decisions that have been made in it to gain spaciousness and life. Starting with the color white, which permeates floors, walls, ceilings, furniture and details, and continuing with having maintained the large windows. Both fill the interior of this studio with light, something key for any home but even more so in a city as cold as Helsinki. Another important decision: they give some elements the role of separating environments. In this home in which we only find a separation (bedroom and living room, on one side, and kitchen and dining room on the other), its owners have been intelligent, and sofas and shelves visually organize the space.

As for the style, in this small corner Nordic brushstrokes are combined with the bohemian touch of the artist. Plants, literature and art decorate the environment. And the rugs and cushions dress it up and give it more color. They don't like to recharge, they say, but to get those parts and accessories that make them happy.

And, finally, the star touch that injects personality into the studio are the vintage furniture and accessories that its owners love so much. Unique pieces that they find in antique markets, others that are inherited and others restored by themselves. Without a doubt, all of them are key to creating your own and particular space in the world.
