The well-known Eames chair is the result of the work carried out by the American architect, designer and film director Charles Eames.
In fact, the chair itself is identified by his name. Together with his wife Ray, he is responsible for numerous designs that have already become classics of the twentieth century.
Their creations have gone around the world and are an icon in themselves, a trend that never goes out of style and no longer just a functional element (because it serves to sit on), on many occasions we include them in the decoration simply to dress up a corner of the house.
A bit of history
The secret to the success of this designer couple lay in creating quality and designer furniture at reasonable prices. The history of the Eames chair began in 1947, at that time Nelson A. Rockefeller, president of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, announced an international competition for the design of low-cost furniture. While the American government focused on the problem of providing houses at affordable prices for the population, Rockefeller thought that it was just as important to be able to offer attractive furniture at affordable prices. After receiving nearly 3,000 entries, in 1949 Rockefeller announced the winners of the competition and Charles Eames was awarded second prize in the seating category. The Eames chair was awarded for the innovation in the base that allowed it to be used in various environments (home, office, etc...) adapting perfectly to the needs of consumers and with a variety of applications that no other chair in competition had been able to match.
This is the beginning of a career dedicated to improving the living conditions of the American people. Charles, along with his inseparable wife Ray Kaise Eames, designed several of the most successful models in the world of modern design. His creations reach our days and his work philosophy still inspires many of the best designers in the world.
