Fashion trends: Shabby Chic style

The Shabby Chic style, as we explained yesterday in our Decopedia, comes from the eighteenth century, from the typical decoration in the English countryside, those huge and impressive country houses in Great Britain that catch our attention when they appear in the movies. This trend is characterized by the use of rustic and worn furniture and the use of ornaments and fabrics with floral prints.

The prestigious publishing publication The World of Interiors , which popularized this style in the twentieth century, considers that Shabby Chic adopts the most refined of French decoration and complements it with a subtle touch of British elegance.

Today, Shabby Chic is characterized by the combination of ancient and modern elements. The pastel color palette predominates, which is why it is common to find tones such as pink, aqua green, light blue... And of course, the purity of white as the predominant one, which causes a bright and balanced atmosphere in rooms that opt for this decorative style. It is quite common to classify this trend as the fashionable vintage style but it is not correct to define it exclusively as vintage.

Antiques and restored furniture, flowers, upholstered pieces with floral prints, wood, vintage items... And sometimes, more common in British houses, we can see rooms covered with carpets or large rugs. Antique gold and bronze are also welcome in Shabby Chic, in mirrors, ceiling lamps, dressers...

If we are not careful, this trend can be overloaded, we could even design somewhat cheesy spaces. But the truth is that if we opt for Shabby Chic to decorate any of the rooms in our home and we achieve a balance between the old, the modern, floral ornaments in just the right measure and a soft chromatic range to match the environment, we can have a warm, bright space, with a romantic and very elegant air.

We love the balance and warmth that this bedroom transmits to us. A space full of light and life, the combination of materials and styles such as the wicker chair and the wooden chair that connect through color. A totally defined style and nothing overloaded.

If a bedroom or a living room is too much for you, then create your little Shabby Chic corners, an entrance hall, a passageway, a hallway. The combinations are endless and the finishes are an absolute trend.

The line between Shabby Chic and Vintage is very thin, if your style is less colonial and more bohemian, then opt for combinations like this one, antiques and more intense colors.
