Home tour, turn your house into a real home!

We sat down to talk with Barbara, a journalist and interior design student, who has won us over with her home and her particular vision of decoration. For her, we agree with this philosophy, the basis is to create environments that make us feel good and be calm at home.

Make yourself comfortable, relax and let's talk about decoration! From simple tricks to make the most of your rooms, inspiration and, above all, the need to pay more attention to our home. Decoration is the key to feeling good in it!

1. We love your Instagram account and the very personal style of your photos! Can you tell us a little about how you started with the account? 

Thanks a lot! I started with the account, @bedecasa, just a year ago. I had been obsessed with decoration for a while. It has taken me three years to clean up my apartment little by little, because I live in a rental and I do not have a very high budget, so it has been a very slow process. 

I also wanted to see other accounts and other ideas to continue to inspire me and participate in the deco community on Instagram, which is huge and full of beautiful houses. At the same time, my blog, BEdecasa, was born, focused on decoration and interior design. 

2. If we talk about decoration, what is the best advice you could give us?

Look, look and look. Before you start shopping, it's essential to soak up inspiration. It's the only way to know what you like and what horrifies you. 

In my case, when I started to redecorate my house , I was impatient. I went shopping without knowing what my style was and I screwed up a few times, especially in the living room. I filled it with yellow accessories, and even bought a super garish armchair . It wasn't until I put it all together that I realized that I hate yellow! It was a disaster. 

3. Of the current trends,  which one do you like or the most? Which one do you plan to introduce at home? 

I don't know if they are a trend anymore, because they have been everywhere for a few years, but I love natural fibers. In my house I have jute rugs, a lot of baskets and a rattan armchair ( miv interiores!). They give it a touch of imperfection and life, which looks great, especially for the summer. 

And of the ones I'd like to try, I'll stick with the powdery tones. A couple of months ago I had the opportunity to go to the Stockholm Furniture Fair for a report I did on Scandinavian design and I was amazed. 

I thought that it was impossible to get the Nordics off target, but nothing could be further from the truth. It was all full of powdery colors and beautiful earth: greens, ochres, pinks, purples... I'm more into neutrals, but maybe for next winter I'll think about it. 

4.  Focusing on your home, double question. What is your favorite corner of your house?

The bedroom, without a doubt. It is the only room that I have been able to design totally to my liking and it shows. I had a kind of blank canvas, so I was able to design a concept: it's a relaxed space, with a bohemian touch but also modern and with touches of black that I love.

Which one are you thinking of changing or giving it a facelift? 
 

This year I want to see what I can do with the bathroom. As I live in rent, until now I had seen it as forbidden land. But since I'm studying interior design now, I want to give it a little bit to my head and see if I can get a little more out of it with what I'm learning. My idea is to do a kind of renovation without renovation, suitable for those of us who live in rented accommodation and have a low budget.

5. We return to Instagram and your trajectory in this 2.0 world. Any tricks to improve the photos of our home?

For me there are two keys: taking advantage of natural light and looking for simple framing. For light, you have to pay close attention to how it enters your house and how it moves through it throughout the day. 

In my case, my apartment doesn't have much light, so I only take photos at noon, which is the time when the light comes in directly.  Anything outside of that time, I know is going to look bad. And for framing, I like simple scenes, with a lot of white, without too many elements (although not minimalist either) and in which straight lines predominate.

Then, I think it's worth learning a little bit about editing. You don't need to go crazy, know how to adjust exposure, saturation, tones... First of all, know what type of images you like the most, I love those that are very white, with a very clear light, but maybe you like them with a more sepia tone, or more saturated.

You also don't need to buy a DSLR camera and learn how to use powerful editing programs like Photoshop. Although it would be ideal (and at a basic level it is easier than it seems), With a mobile phone and free editing applications you can do wonders.

6. Although we don't want to reveal anything, could you tell us a little about the mini course, Turn it around your house in 5 days. 

It is an introductory guide to the deco world, which I have written for all those who are thinking of redecorating their home, but who never find the time to take action. The course is an antidote to that complaint. 

In short, I have condensed all my mistakes and my successes by redecorating my house with the idea that whoever reads the course, at the end of the course, will want to get down to work and, most importantly, know how to do it.
